Dordogne: a facelift for the castles
Castle life? First of all a passion for the Guyot family. The heritage that parents and children are keen to keep alive is, at the beginning of each story, a masterpiece in peril. Périgord owes them three past and current rescues: Bridoire, Marzac, Tiregand, as many entrepreneurial and human adventures.
Three castles, three atmospheres. In Bergerac, Bridoire has come a long way; from its original 12th century, but especially from the fate that nearly destroyed it in the 1990s, at the hands of a Senegalese company said to be linked to Emperor Bokassa. Abandoned and pillaged, it suffered more torment in ten years than in several centuries. Saved by an association and the State, which automatically classified it and expropriated the negligent company, it was the subject of a call for tenders. Thus the Guyot family, who were not at their first rescue, arrived in Périgord in 2011. And opened it to the public the following year. Alice took over from her parents.
